Oaxaca is mezcal country, and La Rinconada has a small cluster of low-key rooftop bars that take it seriously without turning it into a performance. Expect a proper flight — three or four small pours, usually with orange slices and sal de gusano on the side — poured by someone who’ll actually talk you through what you’re drinking and where it’s from. It’s a different pace to Zicatela’s beach bars: quieter, a bit more grown-up, better for a long conversation than a big night out.
The rooftop setting means you get a breeze most nights, which matters here, and a view over the rooftops toward the water if you get there before full dark. Go around 7 or 8pm for the best light and a table before it fills in; later on it settles into a low hum of regulars and couples rather than a crowd.
It’s an easy fifteen minute walk from the cabaña, through the same stretch that gets you to Zicatela. Worth the walk back slowly — mezcal is not a drink to rush, on the way in or out.
