Getting to Puerto Escondido: Flights, Airport, and Transfers

Getting to Puerto Escondido is more straightforward than its “hidden gem” reputation might suggest, but it helps to know the options before you book.

Puerto Escondido has its own small international airport (code PXM), with direct flights from Mexico City and connections from a few US cities depending on the season. Flying into PXM directly is by far the easiest route — the airport is genuinely close to town, about a five minute drive from our homes, so there’s no long transfer to plan around.

The alternative is flying into Oaxaca City or Huatulco and driving or taking a shuttle from there, which takes several hours over mountain roads. It’s a scenic route if you have the time and want to see more of Oaxaca state along the way, but it’s a long day of travel if you’re short on time — flying direct to PXM is the better choice for most trips.

Once you land at PXM, taxis are readily available just outside arrivals, and the ride to our homes takes only a few minutes given how close the airport sits to town. We’re also happy to help arrange a transfer in advance if you’d rather have it sorted before you land — just message us once your flight’s booked.

A practical note on timing: PXM is a small airport with a limited number of daily flights, so double-check your connection times if you’re routing through Mexico City, since gaps between flights can be longer than you’d expect at a bigger hub.

However you route it, the last stretch from the airport to the cabaña is short, which is one of the quieter advantages of staying in Puerto Escondido rather than a destination that needs a two-hour transfer tacked onto every flight.

Once your flights are booked, check availability for your dates so we can help line up the rest.
